We are into the final two weeks before the first deadline for FPL is here. The time for tinkering GW1 teams is getting shorter.
There are just under 3 million managers but over the coming 13 days that will increase. So I suspect the ownership stats to change in some cases quite drastically.
Looking at Goalkeepers the top 5 contains the usual suspects but it does include Man United’s new keeper. Just under 17% ownership. Last seasons top keeper is currently down in 8 place.
If we look at defenders TAA is up in 4th even though he costs £8 million. His potential attacking returns are probably the reason managers are picking him, especially if he plays in the midfield for some games. Last years top defender Trippier is currently in 2nd. Bell is interesting as he is in the top 10, maybe the fact that he will probably play and his price is making him a popular bench choice.
For me the midfielders are the most interesting choice. Those midfielders at the £6 to £9.5 million price range gives you lots of options. Most of the top 10 selected midfielders fall into that price range, with the exception of Salah. Four midfielders broke the 200 points barrier with three of those priced between £8.5 & £9.5 million. Its worth pointing out that Martinelli finished on 198 points. The only Man City midfielder in the top is Foden who is at No 10. With the departures from City will he get more game time.
No surprise Haland is selected by 86.3% of all managers. With his big price tag of £14 million he needs to do similar to last season and bag a load of points, Kane who was 2nd highest scorer is currently in 5th place but is he staying. For me if he stays going Kane over Haland and using that £1.5 million somewhere else could be a good bet. Nkunka from Chelsea is popular in 3rd spot, but will he get those points? The switch to Nunez who costs the same could be done early on so again Im not sure how many of these are place holders.
Over the next 13 days things will change. The manager count will go above 11 million, changes in ownership except Haland will occur so its time to seriously think of GW1.
