FPL 25/26: Mbeumo vs Delap vs Cunha – Who’s the Smartest Pick?

As the 2025/26 Fantasy Premier League season looms, managers are already dissecting pre-season transfers, tactical shifts, and player form. Among the most debated mid-priced attacking options are Bryan Mbeumo, Rory Delap, and Matheus Cunha. Each offers a unique profile—but who deserves a spot in your Gameweek 1 squad?

Let’s break it down.

Bryan Mbeumo – The Proven Engine

Mbeumo enters the season off the back of a career-best 2024/25 campaign: 19 goals and 7 assists in 37 games. That’s a massive leap for a player who, until last season, had only hit double-digit goals once. His versatility—capable of playing centrally or wide—makes him a tactical dream, and his relentless work rate (second only to Bruno Guimarães for distance covered) adds bonus point potential.

However, there’s a caveat. Mbeumo is entering the final year of his contract, and transfer speculation is swirling. Manchester United and Newcastle are circling, and a move could either elevate his output or disrupt his rhythm. If he stays at Brentford, he’s the talisman. If he moves, he might become a cog in a bigger machine.

Rory Delap – The Budget Wildcard

Delap’s £30m move to Chelsea from Ipswich raised eyebrows. Known more for his lineage than his Premier League pedigree, Delap is a gamble. But he’s also a potential gem. If he earns minutes in Chelsea’s fluid front line, he could be a budget enabler with upside.

The key issue? Minutes. Chelsea’s attacking depth is vast, and Delap will need to impress in pre-season to secure a role. If he does, he’s a low-risk, high-reward pick. If not, he’s a benchwarmer.

Matheus Cunha – The Explosive Differential

Cunha’s £62.5m move to Manchester United is one of the summer’s biggest deals. Coming off a stellar season at Wolves—15 goals, 7 assists, and 41 bonus points—he was the sixth-highest scoring forward in FPL. His ability to score from range (five goals outside the box) and create chances (57 key passes) makes him a bonus point magnet.

What’s more, United’s lack of European football means less rotation risk. Cunha is expected to slot into the left-sided No.10 role in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, a position he thrived in last season. If he’s reclassified as a midfielder, his appeal skyrockets.

Verdict

If you want consistency and a high floor, Mbeumo is your man—especially if he stays at Brentford. If you’re chasing value and upside, Delap is a punt worth monitoring. But if you’re after a potential breakout star with elite underlying numbers, Cunha is the standout.

For now, Cunha edges it. He’s got the form, the fixtures, and the tactical fit. But keep an eye on Mbeumo’s transfer saga—if he stays put, he might just run it back.
